My Advice - Do Nothing

You hear about all the things you should do from the TV, the radio, or read them in magazines, maybe you hear them from a friend or family member.

You should exercise, lose weight, make money, borrow money, buy something, learn something, finish school, start school, get married, get a divorce, go on a trip, stop drinking, start drinking, eat something, not eat something, not worry so much, worry more, start having more fun, stop having so much fun...etc. etc. etc... forever.

Whew! it gets a little overwhelming.

Here's what you should do -

NOTHING

Stop, look and listen.

That's what they told us when we were kids before crossing the street and it's still good advice.

It may sound silly but I challenge you to try it. Sit still somewhere, where it's quiet and do nothing. Don't read, write, listen to music, or watch TV, just sit still and do nothing. I'm pretty sure it will be more of a challenge then you might imagine.

After you've mastered the art of sitting in a quiet place you can move up a rung on the "do-nothing" ladder by starting to quiet your mind, keeping aware of your breathing, your surroundings, your body. See if you can let go of the thoughts you have; and just sit, thinking nothing, doing nothing, saying nothing, knowing nothing.

Got it?

Good - now you are meditating,

also known as,

doing nothing.
